April 2005: Token News

John, Mike and Ron at Leesburg, Idaho on our 2nd gathering

I guess the highlight this month would have to be the James Hall/Dempsey, Idaho token on ebay. After spirited bidding John Mutch won with a winning bid of $967.99. This is the 2nd example that I know of and this one was in better condition. I hope John’s wife didn’t kill him. I haven’t heard of his demise so I guess he survived!

Another interesting token on ebay was the common Boise token with a starting price of $9.85 and a buy it now option of $94.10. Fortunately no one bid on the item.

On ebay, I lost out on an Eagle Rock Drug Co/IdahoFalls, Idaho to Richard Jimenez.
John Mutch also picked up a couple of neat Lewiston Bakery Co tokens, Dale Austin picked up a nice K & W/Jerome, Ida. token as well as a neat Jones token from Kellogg. Hollis Pincock got a nice Leonard’s Cafe/Grangeville. Richard Jimenez also won a couple denominations of The Moss Merc. Co./Payette, Ida.. and G-Man got a nice group of Dahlberg tokens from Cottonwood, Idaho. There were a lot of other good Idaho tokens on ebay that I didn’t mention and most sold at reasonable prices.

Several of us met at the Idaho Falls coins show this month. I got a few poker chips and one CDA maverick, Henry Giguere. I didn’t hear of any great tokens showing up. Richard Jimenez had a neat illegal poker chip display but I couldn’t talk him into selling it!

I don’t think any of us ended up going to the WESTS Token Show in California but I think Myron Curtis end up getting the W.J. Dineen(Idaho Falls) maverick in the auction. It is different than the variety that I have and I think is a little bit newer style. Dineen ran a saloon in Eagle Rock and Idaho Falls from the late 1880's until the early 1900's.

The token get together is still planned for June 24-25th in Rathdrum. The only motel close to Rathdrum is about 8 miles away, close to the Interstate. Mike is checking on availability, price etc. His only other suggestion is an RV park in Rathdrum or he says he might be able to borrow a camper from a friend and park it at his house. Anyway, as soon as I know anything concrete I’ll update the information on this page.

This may be my last update for a while. The computer and program that I’ve been using are going with my wife after our divorce which should get finished in a few weeks. Our house has sold and so things are going to be in flux for a few months. I’ll let everyone know via email if I’m unable to continue.
