February - May 2008: Token News
Again, there doesn't seem to be much happening in world of Idaho trade tokens. This cold, snowy weather makes it hard to do much except maybe some research. I did manage to finish a new article thanks to the dreary conditions. I realized that most of my articles seem to be about tokens or businesses in my part of the state. It's a lot harder to do research on things from other parts of the state so I guess everyone will just have to settle for my local articles. I was happy to see that Al Erickson is going to publish his catalog of U.S. saloon tokens. I've been looking forward to it for several years. It should be a great resource. Ordering information is in the February, 2008 issue of "Talking Tokens". Ebay continues to be a good source for Idaho tokens. The highest price paid that I saw this month was for an "Albion Merc. Co. Ltd. / Albion / Idaho // Good For / 5c / In Trade". It sold for $895.00. I realized that this one has a different reverse than mine. Mine is "Good For / 5c / In / Merchandise / At Retail". Albion tokens are very hard to find. A token from "C.& R's. Place / Clarks Fork, / Idaho // Good For / c 5 c / In Trade" sold for $331.78. I think this was a new listing for Clark's Fork at least it was new to me. It is round, aluminum, 21mm and is a neat looking token. A $1.00 token from the "Oakley Co-Operative Store / General / Merchandise / 1913 / Oakley, Ida." sold for $255.00 and a "Young's Cigar Store / Kootenai, Ida." sold for $222.50. There were 3 or 4 other tokens that I followed that broke the $100.00 mark. Overall it seemed to be a good month for Idaho tokens! My son Jake has decided to bite the bullet and is getting married in April. He is the one who knows how to puts my information on the internet and update this web site so I'm not sure what will happen after that. He's been trying to teach me how to update the site and I hope I can learn without goofing things up to much.
