June 2007: Token News

The month of May seems to have flown by so I guess it’s time to add some new information to this site. The first thing I should mention is the token get-together. We are planning to meet on the weekend of July 27th and 28th in Pocatello, Idaho. G-Man called me and we discussed his plan for that weekend. He will e-mail everyone with more specific details but here is a brief outline of what is planned. We are going to meet for dinner as usual on Friday evening the 27th. After dinner we will go to Richard Hansen’s house. He has a large room that we can meet in and begin our evening of trading and swapping tales. Saturday morning we are going to take our usual tour around the area and visit area towns that some of us may not have seen or been to before. I reserved a van that will hold 15 people. I’m going to drive it to Pocatello so we call all be together on our safari. Saturday evening we are going to meet at the Bannock County Museum. The plan is to invite the members of the museum to meet with us. One lucky person is going to give a talk about trade tokens followed by another trading session at the museum. Hopefully some of the museum members will bring some tokens and join in the fun. This may change if G-Man can’t work this out with the museum. G-Man asked me to check on motel prices in Pocatello which I did. The Clark Street exit is the closest to Richard’s house but there is only one motel and it is in the process of being built. It won’t be finished until July 18th so I eliminated that one. I checked out the five motels at the Pocatello Creek exit which is where most of the motels in Pocatello are located. I ended up reserving a block of rooms for Friday and Saturday at the Holiday Inn. The price will be $67.00 per night plus tax. You will each need to call and make a reservation before July 6th to get this rate. Mention that you are with the Idaho Token Collectors group. The normal rate is $74.00 per night. The phone # is 208-237-1400. Greg is having a wooden nickel made for the occasion and Richard is contacting the newspaper. Hopefully we’ll get a nice write-up in the newspaper.

I added a link to the N.W. Tams web site and dropped the contacts list from this site. There was some concern about publishing names, e-mail addresses etc. on the internet. If anyone who was on the contact list wants a copy of the list, e-mail me and I’ll send you a copy.

There weren’t any really exciting Idaho tokens this month on e-bay that I saw. Maybe June will be better.

A maverick token was dug in Soldier, Idaho. It says "S.C.C. The Handy Store" I’m not sure where it’s from. Maybe someone else can provide an attribution.

Last week Dale and I went metal detecting. Dale found 3 Sugar City tokens and an Ogden maverick. I, on the other hand, found nothing. I think the token gods must be mad at me. I can’t figure out how they control things.

I’m working on an new article for next month. I was pretty lazy this past month and didn’t get it finished in time for this update so next month will have to do.

I was able to get copies of the rest of the articles and information I had on my old web site. They have now been added on the "Past Months" page.
