June 2008: Token News
I guess it's time to update my web site. My son Jake is now married but is still going to have time to help me so I'm going to try and get going again. Since I last updated the site I got a new knee which is healing well so I may be able to get out and do some more metal detecting. The weather is finally cooperating so I don't have any other excuses. Now I just need a place to go! The Idaho Token Collectors are going to have our annual "gathering" June 6th and 7th in Nampa. John Mutch and Dan Lute are in charge so it should be great. The plan is to meet in the lobby at the Shilo Inn Suites in Nampa around 7:00 P. M. and then go to dinner. The hotel is just off of Exit 36 on I-84. After dinner we have a conference room reserved to meet in to trade tokens and catch up on all the news. Dan has a van arranged for Saturday morning and apparently the road into Silver City is now open so we'll drive there and stop at other towns like Murphy etc on the way. When we get back Saturday night we again plan to meet to finish up any trades. Sunday morning is optional. You might be able to do a little metal detecting or just head home. I've heard from several people that I don't know with questions about Idaho tokens. Apparently there are people looking a my web site which is nice to know. I see that the NW Tams web-site added a link to my site which encouraged me to get going again. I received an e-mail from Mark Barrett in Guam. He'll be home this fall and is looking forward to getting back to chasing tokens. Greg Manos asked me to look for information on a couple of possible Pocatello maveicks. They are "Archie Assamack" and the "Exum Saloon". If anyone has any information about these two businesses your help would be appreciated. There has been some pretty good Idaho tokens showing up on ebay over the past few months. One that I especially liked was the "Buckaroo Resort / Bruneau, Idaho // Good For / 1 / Smile". It sold for $493.00. Another that I hadn't seen before was "E.J. Peters / Athol, Ida. // Good For / 5c / In Trade; Round, Aluminum, 21mm. It sold for $263.88. A neat E. S. Brown token from Wardner, Idaho sold for $227.50 and one from "The / Swing Co. / St. Anthony / Idaho //Good for / 25c / In Trade" sold for $227.50. A token from " C. F. Jackson / Nezperce / Idaho " sold for $188.50 and two "Gus's / Pool Hall / Priest River / Idaho // Good For / 5c / In Trade" both sold for around $150.00. A rare encased cent with a 1901 Indian Head penny from the "The Falk-Block / Merc. Co. Ltd. / Nampa" sold for $299.00 and the best deal I've seen was a rare Pocatello maverick from the "Gem State Cigar Store" which sold for $15.51. Dan Lute is working on a rare token that he hopes to have by the time we meet in Nampa. I'll have more information on it in my next update but I'm going to take my camera with me just in case he has it by the time we meet.
