March 2005: Token News
|
| The get-together for 2005 is going to be held on the weekend of June 24-25. Rathdrum is the location. Mike will probably email everyone with the information concerning lodging when he gets it figured out. A few neat Idaho tokens were sold on ebay this month. Myron won a Whitney & Burr/ Sandpoint,/ Ida.//Good For/ 5c/ In Trade; Round, Aluminum, 21mm token. It was previously unknown to me but I haven’t checked with John who is the ultimate authority on the subject. It sold in the $60.00 range which I thought was a very reasonable price. Also a Middleton/ Billiard/Hall//Good For/ 2 1/2c/ In Trade token sold in the $60.00 range. Assuming this is from Idaho, this wasn’t an unreasonable price, It was round, brass, 21 mm. Dale picked up a Shavers/Rupert,/Idaho.//Good For/ 6 1/4c/In Trade; Round, Brass, 21mm. It sold for $16.00. Another good buy. I had the chance to buy one years ago for around the same price and I passed it up. Shame on me! Another Miner’s Brewery & Bakery/ Idaho City (Idaho)//Good For/ 25 cents token sold for $601.00 which seems to be the range that most of these are selling for. For those of you with extra deep pockets John Hamilton listed his Idaho, Ter(ritory) token from Silver City. As of yet no one has come up with the $10,000 initial bid. It is one of two known. The other one resides in a California collection and I know he wants the same amount for his. I guess we’re all just cheap! It sounds like we need to take some time this summer and head over that way with our metal detectors. I’ve never been to Silver City but I understand that metal detecting is not allowed. There must be a private land owner somewhere in the area who would let us detect. There should be other Idaho Territory tokens out there somewhere for Boise, Idaho City, Placerville, or Salmon etc. Maybe it’s just wishful thinking. Mike won a nice Preston, Idaho token on ebay. It was issued by J.W. Lawson. It is 8 scalloped, aluminum, and is good for/ 12 ½/ cents/ in trade. It’s a rare token from a tough town. The only "descent" token I picked up this month was on ebay. It was issued by Patterson/&/Farrer/Shelley,/Idaho.//Club Cigar Store/S.L./Stamp/Co./Good For/ 12 1/2c/ In Trade; round, brass, 21mm. Most of these you see are the 5c denomination and have a hole punch. This one was not hole punched. I’m not sure of the rariety of the 12 ½ vs the 5c. I’ll have to check with John Mutch. |
