November 2007: Token News
Ron Haberman, Mike Fritz, Bob Berg and Dan Lute in front of "The Combination" bar in Burke, Idaho. Dan is trying to find tokens just laying on the ground!
It seems like there hasn't been much going on this past month in the world of Idaho tokens. I've been to busy to go metal detecting and I don't know of any great metal detector finds by others. John Mutch had an eventful trip to Idaho Falls this past month. He apparently set out in his mobile token lab for Idaho Falls to do some consulting work for the phone company. His van broke down around Twin Falls so he had to use one of the company vehicles to finish the trip. He eventually made it to Idaho Falls and was able to take a few pictures of Dale Austin's tokens. John is going to replace the engine in his van so it should be running again soon. The best token I saw on e-Bay this month was the token from Gilmore. It doesn't say Idaho on it but I've seen one that was dug in Gilmore, Idaho so I think it is definately an Idaho token. The token says "Gilmore / Pool Hall // Good For / 12 1/2c / In Trade". It is round, aluminum and measures 21mm. It sold for $377.78. A "Randall's Pool Hall / Cottonwood, Idaho // Good For / 5c / In Trade " sold for $55.00. There are two varieties of this token that I know of. I think this was the variety I've seen more often in the past and I think it is a little more common than the other variety. A token from the "Eden Pool Hall / Eden, Idaho // Good For / $5.00 / In Merchandise" sold for $46.62. It was brass, scalloped and measured 42mm. A group of tokens from " Nampa / Nick & / Franks / Idaho" sold for $46.55. These are round, blue or yellow plastic tokens and I think there are 5c and 25c denominations. An "Idaho / Cigar Store / Coeur / D' Alene // Good For / 5c / In Trade" sold for $46.00. It was round, brass and measured 21mm. There are a couple of varieties of this token also. I was able to look at the token in Jefferson County Museum in Rigby. It is a 5c denomination from "The / Golden Rule / Store / Rigby, / Idaho." so I guess that brings the total to three of the 5c denomination known.
